Leadership Roles at Home
One of the best ways to help your child realize their leadership potential is to provide them with an opportunity to lead. Like other Leader in Me schools, we offer student leadership roles as a way to teach responsibility, leadership, and contribution. The same can be done in your home.
To begin:
1. Talk with your child about the leadership role he/she might be interested in at home.
2. Discuss why he/she is interested in the role. Ask what leadership qualities he/she has that will help. Ask how he/she will handle homework or other commitments with this new role.
3. Together, discuss, write, and sign the paper detailing the leadership behavior and expectations of the role.
Give your child a week or so to adjust and then discuss how it’s going. This may open a conversation on how to handle things that are too easy or too difficult.
